# Creating a Project

> Learn how to create a new project in Daedaline.

A **project** is the central workspace for a deal, asset, or diligence engagement. Everything in Daedaline — documents, questions, reports, and counterparty Q\&A — lives inside a project.

## Creating your first project

1. Navigate to the **Projects** page from the main navigation.
2. Click the **Add Project** button in the top-right corner.
3. Enter a name for the project and select an ownership type:
   * **Prospect** — for deals or assets under consideration
   * **Holding** — for assets already in the portfolio
4. Confirm to create the project. You will be taken directly into the project workspace.

## The projects list

The projects list is your home screen. From here you can:

* **Search** for a project by name using the search bar.
* **Filter** by ownership type using the *All*, *Prospects*, and *Holdings* tabs.
* **Toggle** between active and archived projects.
* **Open** any project by clicking its name.

## Project status and ownership

Each project has an **ownership** field (Prospect or Holding) and a **status** field whose options depend on the ownership type. You can update both directly from the projects list using the inline dropdowns on each row.

<Note>
  Changing the ownership type of a project may reset the status field, as the available status values differ between Prospects and Holdings. Daedaline will prompt you to confirm before making the change.
</Note>

## Next steps

Once your project is created, the next step is to add documents.
